This is the combined version of the eight individual self-paced courses on the Crusades created by Peter Konieczny. Think of it as a librarian guiding you through the resources you need to start your own research on the topic. There will be at least 26 lessons, each coming with a pre-recorded video by the instructor, readings, and a bibliography. 

The sections will be rolled out between November 2024 and June 2025. The section on the First Crusade is already available. You can find it here.

Section 1: The First Crusade

Already available, this section comes with five recordings that explore the First Crusade:

Section 2: The Second Crusade

To be released by December 7th, this will have two lectures:

Section 3: The Third Crusade

To be released by January 1st, this have four lectures:

  1. The Crusader States in the second half of the 12th century
  2. The Third Crusade: Sources
  3. The Third Crusade: Studies
  4. The Third Crusade: Richard I, Saladin, and Medievalism

Section 5: The Fourh Crusade

To be released by February 1st, it will have four lectures:

  1.  Byzantium and the Crusades before 1204
  2. The Fourth Crusade - Sources
  3. The Fourth Crusade - Studies
  4. The Latin Empire of Constantinople

Section 5: The Fifth Crusade

To be released by March 1st, this section will have two lectures:

  1. The Fifth Crusade - Sources
  2. The Fifth Crusade - Studies

Section 6: The Sixth Crusade

To be released by April 1st, this section will have two lectures:

  1. The Sixth Crusade - Sources and Studies
  2. Crusader States, Ayyubids and the Fall of Jerusalem in 1244

Section 7: The Seventh Crusade

To be released by May 1st, this section will have four lectures:

  1. King Louis IX of France - Sources and Studies
  2. The Seventh Crusade - Sources
  3. The Seventh Crusade - Studies
  4.  The Mamluks - Background and Studies

Section 8: The Fall of the Crusader States

To be released by June 1st, this section will have three lectures:

  1. Decline of the Crusader States (1250-1280)
  2. The Eight Crusade - Sources and Studies
  3.  The Fall of Acre in 1291 and the End of the Crusader States
